Mizu no Kami

Mizu no Kami is a project I worked on last year for the Crystal Canvas contest. The theme was a water. I had very littel time to create what was in my head but I managed to pull it off in just 10 days. I managed to grab 3rd place which I'm happy about!

Mizu no Kami- which translates to 'God of Water' is a game telling a story of a girl who decides to travel out into the unknown world to find her father who went missing on the sea. She enters the spirit realm full of japanese folklore and creatures that stand on her way as she tries to reach Suijin - title God of Water and beg for her father's return. Game takes place during a storm season in Japan with rain and flooding. Water is an important element of the game as the main character is forced to overcome obstacles that water presents all the time as a dangerous and deadly element. Main character has to solve a lot of environmental puzzles to help herself out of the dangerous situation she is in because of water. Flooded shrines, damaged villages, stormy seas, strong waves and unpredictable thunders are one of the many obstacles nature presents. But on top of all of that are deadly yokai - japanese folklore spirits that hide underneath the water ready to attack.
Mizu no Kami is a dark world full of dangers but also is a fantasy of our 11 year old protagonist that has to outsmart her enemies to survive. Just like Alice in Wonderland, twisted, dark Wonderland.
